March is here, and it’s another opportunity to not only grow your social followings but engage your audience.
Now, I know that you are knee deep in busy season and keeping up with social media is the last thing you have time to do right now, but I’m here to tell you that letting your social slide during this time is something you cannot afford to do.
Social media, and your digital presence as a whole, is a big part of the sales cycle now. Decision-makers are turning to your website, your blog, and your social profiles more now to start their buying process. If you fail to keep them up to date, you will miss out on building relationships with potential clients.
I know it can be hard to constantly come up with content on a consistent basis, but that is where I come in. Creating engaging content, finding topics to consistently post about, and providing social media help to MACPA members is what I am here for.
Here are the topics that you can write about on social media for the month of March.
1. Last month I gave you some post ideas for February, and a lot of those ideas can still work for this month. If you didn’t get a chance to read that post, check it out here. There are date specific deadlines that were mentioned in that post, but you can always spin the topics for the month of March and write about what to do if you’ve missed the filing dates, how to organize the necessary information to make filing painless, how to digitally track information to make filing painless … you get the idea.
Thinking outside the box and showing your audience how to do things and how to make their lives easier is important, not only in showing that you are an expert in your field (beyond the industry certifications) but in helping you build a relationship with that reader that places you in the roles of educator and nurturer. Taking on those roles puts you in a place of nurturing the relationship and building “know,” “like” and “trust” with them.
2. There is a lot of discussion about the proposed digital advertising tax that was introduced recently before the Maryland General Assembly. This bill is geared toward businesses that make an annual global revenue of $100 million a year or more, but can it be long before the revenue threshold is lowered and starts affecting more and more businesses targeting IP addresses with their digital advertisements in Maryland?
Take this opportunity to start explaining the implications of this proposal to your followers. You can actually build on this idea for the entire month. This will allow them to start asking questions on how this will affect them and their advertising, and how they need to strategically plan ahead not only with product launches but tax planning and working with their marketing departments or agencies.

4. March is the end of the first quarter of 2020. A lot of people need to be reminded that they need to check their financials, gather information for any quarterly filings, check to see if they are still on target to meet their quarterly goals, and if any adjustments need to be made. Your best bet is to create several posts regarding each of these things. Make them detailed and comprehensive, like a micro blog post.
You can also create a lead magnet that will help them with these tasks. This will help grow your email list and make an engaged email list if you do the following:
Ask them to opt in and receive a tutorial on how to analyze their financial statements with a chance to win a prize, or free offer, at the end.
Send them a video, blog post, or social media post going over in detail what they need to look at to correctly analyze their financial statements.
When they have watched or read what you sent them have them comment on the post, take a screenshot and email you back with their biggest takeaway.
Once they complete this part for all of the steps you take them through to learn how to analyze financial statements, send them the prize / free offer at the end.
This system not only helps to grow your email list but it also helps increase the engagement rate and click through rate of your emails. This is important because an engaged email list is a pipeline to future clients.
5. Since you are still in the middle of a busy season, you can also share what you are doing to alleviate the stress, help the teams be more efficient, share little things you are learning along the way that you are going to do different next year, or what you are snacking on to make it through the day. We’re all human. We’re not machines. People will appreciate the “realness” in the posts and possibly relate to them more.
