The introduction of smartphones and tablet computers has resulted in an explosion of apps and technologies allowing accountants, using data visualization, information design and delivery techniques, to better deliver information to clients and to the boards and senior managements of the organizations in which they work. Our goal as accountants: to deliver actionable financial information quickly in formats that are readily understandable and delivered in ways that our users can easily access. If we are printing reports only on paper, or emailing PDFs of paper reports and spreadsheets, we will soon be left behind as the technology train leaves the station! In this session we will cover some of the available technologies for data visualization and information design and delivery, and present a methodology for the steps involved in taking raw accounting data converting it into meaningful information and then presenting it in ways that take advantage of the latest data visualization and information design & delivery technologies.
