Legacy Giving Options

  • A bequest to the Foundation in a will or through a revocable trust – Suggested language to provide to your attorney in drafting an unrestricted bequest gift: “I give to the MACPA Educational Foundation, Inc., a non-profit corporation currently located at 901 Dulaney Valley Road, Suite 800, Towson, Maryland 21204, or its successor thereto, ___________ {written amount or percentage of the estate] for its unrestricted charitable use and purpose.”


  • The naming of the Foundation as a beneficiary of a retirement plan or life insurance policy.


  • A named endowment ($25,000 minimum gift) to recognize a person, family, firm, or company. Typically, but not solely, a named scholarship fund.


  • Qualified Charitable Distributions – Make a gift from your traditional IRA during your lifetime that would be subject to income tax if otherwise withdrawn.
    • To Qualify:
      • You must be age 70 ½ or older at the time of the gift
      • Transfers must be made directly from your traditional IRA account by your administrator to the Foundation. Funds that are withdrawn by you and then contributed do not qualify. Gifts from a 401k, 403b, SEP, and other plans do not qualify.
      • Gifts must be outright.
    • Benefits:
      • Counts toward some or all of your required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year from your IRA.
      • Can total up to $100,000.
      • Not included in gross income for Federal income tax purposes on your IRS Form 1040 (no charitable deduction is available, however).


  • Donor Advised Funds – If you’ve established a donor advised fund through your investment or mutual fund company you can make contributions to the Foundation with those funds.
