John C. Ames

John Ames is the Resident Auditor (Office Manager) of the Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) Lockheed Martin Corporate Resident Office located in Bethesda, Maryland. The office has audit cognizance of Lockheed Martin Corporate which includes their residual costs and corporate administered program expenses. John started with DCAA in 1972 as a staff auditor. In 1980 he became a Supervisor having audit cognizance of major and mobile contractors in the Silver Spring and Bethesda, Maryland areas. In 1984 he was promoted to a Branch Manager at the District Branch Office in Landover, Maryland. Since then he has also been the Office Manager assigned at the National Branch Office, the IBM Resident Office, the Beltway Branch Office, the Silver Spring Branch Office and the Lockheed Martin Corporate Resident Office. In addition, during these years he had been the DCAA Contract Audit Coordinator (CAC) at IBM Corporation, at General Dynamics Corporation, at Martin Marietta Corporation and at Lockheed Martin Corporation. John has received various awards over the years but most notably was the DCAA William B. Petty Special Achievement Award for Management Excellence. In addition, John has received the DCAA Meritorious Civilian Service Award. Since 1992 John has participated in many team and ad hoc groups. Some of them have been the SWAT Team on Civilian Agency Contracting to improve contracting practices and management controls on cost-type federal contracts, the DCMC/DCAA/Industry Restructuring Proposal Process Improvement Group, the Single Process Initiative (SPI) Government/Industry group to improve upon and streamline the SPI process, the Lockheed Martin/Government Corporate Management Council to foster acquisition reform through process improvements and others. John attended St. Francis College in Loretto, Pennsylvania. He graduated with a B.S. degree in Accounting. John was born in Altoona, Pennsylvania. He and his wife Betty have 2 grown children, Nikki and Philip and 1 granddaughter, Hannah. In addition, they have a Dalmatian named Ashes. They reside in Mt. Airy, Maryland.
