Ed is a partner in SC&H State and Local Tax consulting practice. With more than a decade of experience, appointments to state tax committees, published articles, and numerous professional speaking engagements, Ed is a recognized leader in the field of state and local tax. Recent accomplishments include negotiating, on behalf of a manufacturing client, Maryland's first two sales and use tax effective rate agreements.
Successfully representing clients at hearings in multiple jurisdictions across the country, Ed has saved his clients millions of dollars in a broad range of sales and use tax matters. He directs and performs reverse audits, audit defense, transactional planning, nexus studies, matrix development, tax technology engagements, and corporate sales tax training for clients ranging from Fortune 500 manufacturers to multi-state retailers, defense contractors, telecommunications companies, contractors and service companies.
Ed began his career with an international accounting firm, where he gained a solid base of knowledge in state and local tax consulting. He joined SC&H in 1996, and has continued developing his skills in the areas of personal property tax, sales and use tax, as well as federal and multi-state tax research.
Ed has published articles in the Maryland Daily Record, AICPA Tax Advisor, and SC&H's quarterly newsletter. He is also a sought-after speaker and has given presentations on a wide range of sales and use tax topics for the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, the Tax Executive's Institute, and various industry groups.
Ed earned a B.A. degree in accounting from Towson University, where he graduated with honors. He is a Certified Public Accountant and an active member of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA), where he was appointed Chairman of its State Tax Committee; he is also a member of the MACPA-MSBA (Maryland State Bar Association) Joint Task Force.
