Migrant Heritage Commission seeks financial literacy teachers

Posted on Nov. 16, 2009

The Migrant Heritage Commission is looking for volunteers in Montgomery, Prince George's and Howard counties to teach basic financial literacy, budgeting and planning at various sites. We will be using the FDIC-approved Money Smart curriculum, which is available on CD and which we will distribute to volunteers. Previous teaching experience is preferred but not required, but volunteers must be willing to go through a short CD-based curriculum on how to teach the material. The material is basic and covers how to set up a checking account, how to save, how to budget, etc. The current curriculum is set to 10 modules at two hours each. We are open to modifying (adding / subtracting material) to accommodate your skills / teaching interests and / or schedule. Sessions will be hosted for groups of 6-10 students over the course of several weeks. For details, contact (703) 273-1196 or jmerfe@gmail.com.
