Special Olympics Maryland needs volunteer finance managers

Posted Aug. 13, 2008

Special Olympics Maryland (SOMD) needs several volunteer finance managers.

SOMD is a statewide organization offering year-round sports training and competition to citizens of Maryland with intellectual disabilities. SOMD has 19 local programs throughout Maryland.

The volunteer finance manager manages all revenue and expenses for a local program. This requires making financial reports to the local program’s director, Management Team and the Statewide Central Office. An automated general ledger system is managed at the central office. The volunteer finance manager submits documentation for revenue and expense to the central office, receives and analyzes reports from the financial system for the local program, assists with preparation of the annual budget and compares actual revenue and expense to the budget. The time commitment varies with the size of the local program. A minimum of approximately two to three hours per week will be needed. On occasion, more time will be required for large fund raising or sports events. Minimum qualifications are one year of accounting experience maintaining or reconciling general ledger accounts. A degree in accounting or a related subject. Must be able to pass national criminal background and driver’s record checks and complete an online Protective Behaviors course.
