News about featured speakers at the upcoming Maryland Business and Accounting Expo

New speaker for IFRS session

Scott M. Bressler, CPA, an instructor with the Business Learning Institute, will lead the session entitled, "What you Need to Know About International Standards (IFRS) on June 18 from 4:10 to 5 p.m. Bressler is managing director of Financial Training International, Inc. (FTI) and its Seminar Division, FTI Seminars. He has presented at conferences, seminars and workshops on IFRS and U.S. GAAP in the United States, the European Union, Central and Eastern Europe, Canada, the Middle East, Russia, Central Asia, the Caucuses, the Balkans, India and Japan. He is an internationally acclaimed expert on International Financial Reporting Standards and U.S. GAAP. He has also advised governments and self-regulatory organizations in the reform of their accounting and auditing systems to be compatible with international standards. His divese background in accounting and auditing includes experience as a CFO of an international consulting firm, audit partner, and professor of accounting and auditing.

Small Business Administration, MACPA join forces

The MACPA has formed a strategic alliance with the Small Business Administration's Baltimore District Office. Representatives from the SBA will present two sessions at the upcoming Maryland Business and Accounting Expo. They will do a general session on all of the resources available to Maryland's businesses, from the popular financing programs to government certification programs, SCORE, and even how to take advantage of the BRAC. The second session will be on what CPAs need to know about SBA programs that can help their clients and companies. Get further details here.

Linden Lab CFO to lead session in real life and Second Life simultaneously

John Zdanowski, chief financial officer of Linden Lab (the company that created Second Life), will present a session at the Maryland Business and Accounting Expo in real life and in Second Life simultaneously, to demonstrate the power and potential that Second Life holds as a business tool. Intuit to present 'Future of Small Business' report

Representatives from Intuit will present a report entitled, "The Future of Small Business" as part of the Maryland Business and Accounting Expo on June 17-18 in Baltimore.

Patterson's article published

Dr. Alan M. Patterson, president of Mentoré and a Business Learning Institute partner, had an article titled "Nurture Talent to Fill Coming Leadership Void" published in Providence Business News. Dr. Patterson will present two sessions at the Maryland Business and Accounting Expo -- "Identifying, Developing and Hanging on to Talent" and "Evaluating Team Performance."

Solomon wins Shingo Prize

Maryland Business and Accounting Expo speaker Jerry Solomon has won the 2008 Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence (also called the Nobel Prize of Operational Excellence). This is Solomon's second Shingo Prize; his first was for the lean book titled, Who’s Counting.

Attend his session at the Expo titled, "What You Need to Know About 'Lean'" and learn about his award-winning techniques to make your organization efficient. Solomon is the vice president of operations – Hunt Valley for MarquipWardUnited, the largest division of the Barry-Wehmiller Companies Inc., the western hemisphere’s leading packaging automation and converting group. He is leading the lean transformation efforts in both the manufacturing and financial areas.

XBRL chair Willis to lead two sessions

Mike Willis, CPA, a partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers and founding chairman of XBRL International, has been confirmed to lead two session at the Maryland Business and Accounting Expo -- "XBRL for Dummies" and "XBRL: SEC's Pilot Financial Reporting Project."

Willis is truly a global leader with XBRL, which is composed of more than 350 leading software, accounting and finance companies from 24 countries around the world. XBRL is an enabling tool that is revolutionizing the business reporting supply chain benefiting preparers, distributors, aggregators and consumers of this information.

Willis consults with companies on their adoption of emerging technologies used in business reporting, business intelligence and decision analysis processes. He also is co-author of the book, XBRL for Dummies.
