Brunk captures MACPA Public Service Award
TOWSON, May 23, 2007 — Martin P. Brunk, CPA, is the winner of the Maryland Association of CPAs' 2007 Public Service Award.
The award will be presented June 18 at the MACPA’s annual meeting in Columbia.
Mr. Brunk, co-leader of assurance services at RSM McGladrey/McGladrey & Pullen, LLP, has been active in public service throughout much of his 27-year career as a certified public accountant.
For the past eight years, he has been actively involved with the Maryland Food Bank. Serving as treasurer, vice president and currently as Board chair, Mr. Brunk has helped facilitate the Food Bank’s financial growth to fund a new $7.2 million warehouse facility, significantly increasing the Food Bank’s ability to supply necessary grocery products to charitable food providers that feed individuals and families in need. Most notably, he created and co-chaired (with his wife, Mary) the Maryland Food Bank’s Annual Blue Jean Ball, which has netted more than $400,000 in its first two years and has emerged as one of the area’s premier fund raising events.
As part of the Leadership Maryland Class of 2007, Mr. Brunk plans to take his efforts to another level, reaching out to state leaders on policy issues related to hunger.
In addition to his efforts with the Maryland Food Bank, Mr. Brunk has served on the boards of the American Red Cross of Central Maryland, the American Cancer Society – South Atlantic Division, and the President’s Council and Bicentennial Commission of his alma mater, Mount St. Mary’s University.
“Marty Brunk has combined his professional commitment to serving the public interest with a personal commitment to serving Maryland's communities," said J. Thomas Hood III, CPA, president and CEO of the Maryland Association of CPAs. "It is with great pride and admiration that we honor Marty Brunk with the 2007 MACPA Public Service Award.”
