MACPA member benefits

More member benefits

MEMBERS: These member benefits are only the beginning! The MACPA offers an exclusive line of products and business solutions at deep discounts for members.

Take a closer look at just a few of the many benefits available only to MACPA members.

Legislation that protects the CPA brand

The MACPA works closely with state legislators and the State Board of Public Accountancy to protect the public interest and promote the CPA profession. MACPA members present issues and represent the profession at our annual CPA Day in Annapolis, where they mingle with state senators, delegates and other professionals and make important connections. The MACPA also provides members with a library of legislative issues and regulatory affairs, articles and resources. Get complete details here.

Efforts to help attract / retain talent in the profession

The MACPA’s student recruitment program is positioned as a grassroots effort starting in high schools and colleges, and continues with research to follow the path of young professionals in the workforce to see where they are migrating. These efforts will help restock the pool of CPAs in the face of a tight labor market — not just for today or tomorrow, but for years to come. The MACPA has created a separate Web site — TomorrowsCPA.org — just for students. The Web site includes internship opportunities, CPA exam tips and review courses, advice for a career in accounting, resources, scholarship information and more. Students can join the MACPA for free. They receive e-communications, a student newsletter and access to "Members Only" on the student Web site. We also offer an extensive candidate membership for young professionals who have graduated from college and are working toward becoming CPAs.

    Regional access and state-wide communications

The MACPA reaches members through several venues — radio, newspapers, magazines, e-mails, e-newsletters, snail mail, telephone, fax and finally, through local and regional events. The MACPA holds seven annual conferences and in addition, plans special events throughout the year. "Welcome to the Profession" night is held in the spring where new CPAs meet and network with MACPA members in a fun, casual atmosphere. The conferences include CPE, but the other events may be social or networking ventures. The MACPA is able to communicate with members through:

    • Chapters: MACPA chapters are set up across the state to accommodate members wherever they may live or work. Chapter leaders work with MACPA to schedule seminars, computer classes, town hall meetings and special events. Members can get details about our chapters here.
    • Town hall meetings: The MACPA also holds annual town hall meetings throughout the state to discuss current issues affecting the profession and business world.
    • E-newsletters: The MACPA has created e-newsletters that center around and cater to "communities." Once a month, we send out e-newsletters to subscribers. Members can read archived newsletters here.
    • Professional affiliations: The MACPA is always looking for opportunities to partner with other businesses and organizations to sponsor special events and arrange discounts on products and resources. For instance, the MACPA partners with Amazon.com to receive discounts for members and plans an annual conference with MICPEL. The MACPA also sponsors events such as the National Association of Black Accountants annual awards banquet. Professional affiliations like these help the community, solidify the CPA brand, and enhance the learning and networking experiences for our members.
