Legislative advocacy to protect the CPA brand and the public
The MACPA works closely with state legislators and the State Board of Public Accountancy to protect the public interest and promote the CPA profession. MACPA members present issues and represent the profession at our Annual CPA Day in Annapolis, where they mingle with state senators, delegates and other professionals and make important connections. The MACPA also provides members with a library of legislative issues and regulatory affairs, articles and resources. Get complete details here.
Grassroots recruiting
The MACPA’s student recruitment program is positioned as a grassroots effort starting in high schools and colleges, and continues with research to follow the path of young professionals in the workforce to see where they are migrating. These efforts will help restock the pool of CPAs in the face of a tight labor market — not just for today or tomorrow, but for years to come. The MACPA has created a separate Web site — TomorrowsCPA.org just for students. The Web site includes internship opportunities, CPA exam tips and review courses, advice for a career in accounting, resources, scholarship information and more. Students can join the MACPA for free. They receive e-communications, a student newsletter and access to "Members Only" on the student Web site. We also offer an extensive candidate membership for young professionals who have graduated from college and are working toward becoming CPAs.
Innovation: Staying relevant and maintaining the CPA brand
The MACPA continues to work on changing the stereotypes of the CPA profession through ad campaigns, student recruitment, and social media blitzs. MACPA is also equipped with state of the art equipment and technology for our classrooms and staff. Get further details here.
