Update in the revision of MACPA's structure and governance
The Design Team (originally cited as the “Exploratory Task Force” in the July Statement), consisting of 12 members representing the Board, the former Under 35 Structure and Governance Task Force and the Over 35 Structure and Governance Task Force, has spent a good part of their summer evaluating MACPA’s current structure.
The Design Team chose to specifically focus internally on governance and structure issues, saving potential external changes such as a career mentoring program, enhanced Web site and a volunteer rewards system for a later date. Specifically they are focusing on three areas of governance and structure: Board/Executive Committee, Committees, and Chapters.
The team recognizes the importance of these segments of our membership not only for providing a framework for our organization, but for the countless professional, networking, and social opportunities each provides. The members involved in these areas are what make our organization strong.
With that in mind, the team is examining each area in an attempt to accomplish a few objectives:
- Streamline the current structure with each group performing an assessment of its past goals and achievements and potential for future success.
- Create a system of evaluation of the activities and accomplishments of each group in order to provide a general direction to our volunteers and to provide our Board of Directors with an objective way to allocate resources.
- Allow each group and its parts to plan independently within the established guidelines, identifying and incorporating best practices used throughout the association.
The Design Team hopes to announce the detailed restructuring plan in late August.
The Design Team representatives are Byron K. Patrick, Leah E. Metzger, Edith S. Holland, James T. Jubb, John I. Wilson, Martin I. Yospa, Robert E. Eck, Stephanie A. Myers, Susan J. Huddy, Tamara B. Bensky and Victoria S. Rymer.
