Baltimore Business Journal

The Daily Times (Salisbury)

Ed Rommel, CPA, of Twilley, Rommel & Stephens P.A., was featured in an October 2007 article entitled, "Maryland tax hikes could push business to Delaware."

Inside Public Accounting

Kenneth Baggett, CPA, managing partner of Reznick Group, PC, appeared in the June 2007 edition of Inside Public Accounting as part of an article entitled, "Alternative Schedule Partners: What This Trend Says About The Health Of A Firm."

WMAL NewsRadio, 630 AM

The Washington D.C. radio station featured MACPA brand commercials as part of its Tax Tips 2007 Series, which ran during the popular Ric Edelman financial advice show, Saturdays from Feb. 17 through  April 14, from 10 to 11:45 a.m.

SmartCEO

An article by MACPA CEO Tom Hood appeared on the SmartCEO Web site the week of Feb. 12, 2007 as part of the "Big Idea" series. “Jumpstart your Strategy through Training & Leadership Development” describes the strategic implications of training as typified in the programs of the Business Learning Institute (BLI).

Washington Business Journal

Lisa Cines, CPA, of Aronson & Company, appeared in a WBJ online video interview on Jan. 30, 2007, in which she discussed the local economy and its impact on CPAs.

The Wall Street Journal

Irvin Flax, CPA, of Gorfine, Schiller & Gardyn, was quoted in a Jan. 23, 2007 article entitled, "When devotion to work becomes job obsession."

The Examiner

  • James Warring, CPA, of Rubino & McGeehin, is quoted in a March 26, 2007, article entitled, "Retirement planning from your payroll."
  • Aaron Bloom, CPA, of Ribis Jones & Maresca, PA, was quoted in a March 12, 2007 article titled, "Deducting driving costs."
  • Andrew L. Bareham, CPA, of Gross, Mendelsohn & Associates, was quoted in the Feb. 27, 2007 Tax Tip of the Day column titled, "Ways to claim mortgage payments."
  • Alvin Katz, CPA, of KAWG&F, was intereviewed in a Jan. 19, 2007 article entitled, "Learning is vital to success for accounting chief."

WLOY

Samuel Handwerger, CPA, of Handwerger, Cardegna, Funkhouser & Lurman, P.A., will appear on Feb. 15 on the program "Cents-able Finance," on radio station WLOY 1620 AM. Mr. Handwerger will answer questions on "The Importance of Tax Planning" from 1 to 1:30 p.m.

WJZ

Carol I. Katz, CPA, of Leonard J. Miller & Associates, Chartered, appeared on WJZ-TV (Channel 13) in Baltimore on Sunday morning, Jan. 7. She was interviewed on the topic of "Financial New Year Resolutions."

C-SPAN

Joel Maller, CPA, of The Maller Group and Laura Selby, CPA, appeared on C-SPAN's "Washington Journal" on March 18, 2006. The MACPA members fielded tax questions from the audience and provided general tax tips. The program was also simulcast on FM in Washington, D.C. and on Sirus satellite radio.

Maryland Public Television

MACPA Executive Director and CEO Tom Hood, CPA, appeared on Maryland Public Television on Feb. 9, 2006. He offered tips on how to select a CPA as part of a tax-related program.

The Sun

  • Richard Nudelman, CPA, of Berman, Goldman & Ribakow, was quoted in the Feb. 27, 2007 Eileen Ambrose column titled, "Broke on $200,000 a year."
  • Aaron Bloom, CPA, and Lori Burghauser, CPA, were quoted in an April 10, 2006, article entitled, "Quirk lets late filers delay the inevitable: Procrastinators in Md. can send taxes through April 18."
  • Three experts from Stout, Causey & Horning — Jim Wilhelm, CPA; Stuart Rudo, CPA; and Greg Horning, CPA — answered questions about preparing tax returns in a weekly column that appeared throughout the 2006 tax season.

Clear Channel Radio

MACPA member Aaron Bloom, CPA, of Ribis, Jones and Maresca in Columbia, regularly dispenses tax advice on a radio tax show called "Metro Talk." The show airs at 7:10 a.m. on the second Sunday of each month on Clear Channel Radio stations WTEN 980 AM, WBIG 100.3 FM and 1260 AM.

Members as authors

  • William I. Eskin, CPA, recently authored a book entitled, Construction Contractors: Real-World Guide to Accounting & Auditing. The book is published by Bisk, Inc.
  • Raymond Speciale, CPA, is the author of Aircraft Ownership: A Legal and Tax Guide. The book was published in June 2003 by McGraw-Hill.
  • Shirley Appleby, CPA, is the author of Death and Taxes, a fictional novel in which a CPA helps solve a Maryland-based murder.
  • Dr. Stephen E. Loeb, the Ernst & Young Alumni Professor of Accounting and Business Ethics at the Robert H. Smith School of Business of the University of Maryland, is the editor of Our Past, Our Future — 100 Years of CPAs in Maryland, 1901-2001. Other MACPA members who contributed to the book are M. Kathryn Burkey, CPA; Michael J. Garner, Ph.D., CPA; David A. Jenkins, CPA; Barbara R. Stewart, Ph.D., CPA; and Margaret Hicks, Ph.D., CPA.
  • Edward J. McMillan, CPA, CAE, is the author of The Audit, a fictional accounting thriller.
