Check your refund status
Federal returns: Two options are available for checking the status of your federal refund:
- Call the IRS' Refund Hotline at (800) 829-1954. You will need to provide your name, Social Security number, filing status (single, head of household, married filing jointly, married filing separately, or qualifying widow(er) with dependent child); and the amount of your expected return.
- Visit the "Where's My Refund" page on the IRS Web site. You will need to provide your name, Social Security number, filing status (single, head of household, married filing jointly, married filing separately, or qualifying widow(er) with dependent child); and the amount of your expected return.
Maryland returns: Two options are available for checking the status of your state refund:
- Call (800) 218-8160 (or 410-260-7701 in central Maryland). Make sure you have a copy of this year's tax return in front of you when you call.
- Use the "Refund Status Inquiry" service on the Maryland comptroller's Web site.
